In the preseason opener Tuesday night against the Celtics, giant center Joel Embiid worked through three post moves and scored his first basket as a professional, blocked a dunk at the top of the square, then hit a 24-footer.

Silky forward Dario Saric hit two three-pointers and scored 10 points.

Clever point guard Sergio Rodriguez played 22 minutes and did not even resemble his flashy former NBA self. Those three newcomers offered a sample of why the Sixers think they can go from laughingstock to legitimacy.
